We Came to Dance

Dance heals. Dance inspires. Dance touches you in ways that nothing else can. Dance has been a lifesaver for me because without it, fibromyalgia would be kicking my tail. But with dance on my side, I am kicking fibro’s butt on a daily basis. Do yourself a favor. Put on some music and let yourself go! Go out dancing. Take a dance class.

Just. Get. Moving.

We came to dance

What is Minty Yummy Pain Relief?

I have fibromyalgia, and I am always on the lookout for natural ways to relieve my pain.  While I was still active duty Air Force, I was on so many different medications just so I could manage to show up at work and survive the day.  After I retired, I weaned myself from all the different pills I had been prescribed, and I realized I had been pretty much a zombie on all those drugs.

What Do YOU Feel When You Dance?

I love this question asked by Ana Masacote of Masacote Entertainment out of Boston. She is a beautiful, talented dancer who has inspired me more than she knows.

“What do you feel when you dance?”

Tonya Jump2

I feel freedom when I dance.

I’ve got fibromyalgia so every day of my life is filled with pain.

But when I dance,  I am free of pain.

I’m filled with joy.

I’m connected to my partner…

and the music…

and the energy of all the dancers around me…

I feel beautiful…

And strong…

I feel loved…

and I feel blessed to have this gift of dance. It is an amazing outlet.

So tell me, what do you feel when YOU dance?

9 Surprising Health Benefits of Massage

Massages do a body—and mind—good. Here are 9 scientifically-proven reasons to go get that massage.

1. Helps lower back pain. In a study conducted through Group Health Institute and published in the February 2014 edition of Scientific World Journal, researchers investigating whether chronic low-back pain therapy with massage therapy alone was as effective as combining it with non-steroid anti-inflammatory drugs, found that patients receiving massage were twice as likely as those receiving usual care to report significant improvements in both their pain and function. Massage patients also reported that they were able to reduce the amount of OTC anti-inflammatory medications they were taking.

2. Lessens inflammation after exercise. Research through the Buck Institute for Research on Aging and McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, indicated that massage therapy lessens inflammation of skeletal muscles acutely damaged through exercise.

Find Fibro Pain Relief With Massage

So, as you know, I am going to school to become a Massage Therapist. One of the reasons that I made this decision to go to school full time for nine months along with running a business (all the while forfeiting any hopes of a normal sleep schedule) is because I believe in the power of massage on those of us battling chronic pain.

I found this article that talks about how beneficial it is for us to get regular massage.

Help Me Get Out of Bed!

So, one of the most aggravating parts of fibromyalgia is how hard it is to get out of bed in the morning. My body is absolutely WRACKED with pain and I’m usually exhausted. I having a really hard time now because I am in school for massage therapy so I have to be up at 7. Class is from 8:30 to 2:40 and then I have to take care of the family, teach Zumba and Salsa and my day usually ends around 10 or 11 PM. I will be doing this until I graduate the program in December. Needless to say, I am struggling a bit right now. BTW, please keep me in your prayers including a GINORMOUS hedge of protection.

But anyway, thank God I have discovered a routine that helps me to get moving. I have committed myself to doing this every morning and I hope that you guys join me!
